HOW TO DESIGN A HYROX GYM: FLOOR PLANS, STATIONS, AND EQUIPMENT

HYROX is one of the fastest-growing competitive fitness formats in the world, and for good reason. Unlike a typical gym workout, HYROX blends running and functional workout stations into one race, testing strength, endurance, and consistency all at once. As more gyms and training facilities look to bring this experience to their members, one question always comes up first: where do we start?

At Fitnessmith, we’ve partnered with Centr, the Official Global Equipment Supplier of HYROX, to become the exclusive East Coast source for HYROX Training Centers. That partnership means we don’t just sell you equipment and wish you luck. We walk with you through every step of the process, from your first design consultation to the final installation.

Here’s how that process works:

Step 1: Floor Plans

Before a single piece of equipment is selected, we start with your space.

Every HYROX Training Center is different. Fitnessmith’s design team evaluates your space, your budget, and your goals. From there, we develop a customized floor plan structured around the HYROX race format: eight rounds of a 1km run followed by a functional workout station. That sequence drives how the space is laid out. Traffic flow, zone separation, movement patterns, and member experience are all factored in from the start.

The goal is a layout that’s certified to official HYROX movement standards, functional under real training loads, and built to deliver a consistent in-club experience that athletes will recognize anywhere.

Step 2: Stations

HYROX isn’t a free-for-all workout. It’s a structured, repeatable format, and your training center should reflect that.

The eight functional workout stations in a HYROX race (SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmer’s carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls) each have specific space, surface, and equipment requirements. Designing your training center means thinking through each of those stations individually and then planning how they work together as a system.

Fitnessmith helps you map out each station in relation to your floor plan, ensuring proper spacing, safety clearances, and the kind of purposeful layout that makes training feel race-ready. When athletes walk into your facility, the setup should immediately communicate that this is a serious training space, not a corner of the gym with a sled pushed to the side.

Step 3: Equipment

This is where the Centr partnership becomes the difference-maker.

Because Centr is the Official Global Equipment Supplier of HYROX, every piece of equipment in the Centr x HYROX range is purpose-engineered to meet HYROX race standards. That means the same sleds. The same wall balls. The same turf. No guesswork.

When your members train on Centr equipment at your facility, they’re training on the exact gear they’ll encounter in competition. That consistency builds confidence, improves performance, and sets your gym apart as a legitimate HYROX training destination.

The Centr lineup built for HYROX Training Centers includes:

  • Power Sleds and Official Competition Perform Turf
  • Competition Wall Balls, Sandbags, and Octo Kettlebells
  • Edge Bumper Plates, Power Rope, and Dumbbells
  • Additional weight sizes and accessories to round out the full training ecosystem

As your exclusive East Coast partner, Fitnessmith simplifies procurement from start to finish. We source the equipment, coordinate delivery, and manage logistics so the process is seamless on your end.

From Installation to Ongoing Support

Once your floor plan is finalized and your equipment is selected, Fitnessmith’s certified installation team takes it from there. Every detail, including delivery, assembly, and precise equipment placement, is handled to match the approved layout. We manage the process from start to finish, with dedicated project management ensuring your facility comes together on schedule and without disruption.

We don’t stop at installation, either. Fitnessmith sets the industry standard for equipment service and preventative maintenance.
