HOW TO DESIGN A HYROX GYM: FLOOR PLANS, STATIONS, AND EQUIPMENT

HYROX has quickly become one of the most recognizable competitive fitness formats in the world, combining running with functional training stations that challenge strength, endurance, and consistency. As demand for HYROX training continues to grow, more fitness facilities are looking to create dedicated training zones that give members an authentic, race-ready experience.

Creating a successful HYROX Training Zone involves more than adding a sled and some turf to an existing workout area. The space, equipment, layout, and traffic flow all need to work together.

At Fitnessmith, we partner with Centr, the Official Global Equipment Supplier of HYROX, to help facilities create purpose-built HYROX Training Zones. From initial floor plans and equipment selection through installation and ongoing service, our team helps simplify the process from start to finish.

START WITH YOUR SPACE

Before selecting equipment, it’s important to understand how a HYROX Training Zone will fit within your facility.

The Centr HYROX Training Zone Equipment Guide outlines a minimum required area of approximately 2,147 square feet, with a minimum length of approximately 62.34 feet and minimum width of approximately 34.45 feet. Recommended space increases based on the number of athletes the facility intends to accommodate, with layouts provided for 16, 24, and 32-person training zones.

These requirements provide a starting point, but every facility is different. Fitnessmith’s design team can evaluate your available space, goals, budget, and intended training capacity to develop a layout that makes the most of your footprint.

DESIGN AROUND THE HYROX EXPERIENCE

A successful HYROX Training Zone should feel intentional. The layout needs to support movement between stations while providing the space, clearances, and visibility necessary for safe and effective training.

The recommended layouts are designed around the flow of HYROX training, including the placement of running lanes, functional stations, equipment, and coach viewing areas. The official guide also outlines requirements for turf configuration, equipment spacing, wall ball target placement, and other key layout considerations.

Rather than treating HYROX equipment as an addition to an existing workout floor, Fitnessmith helps facilities create a dedicated environment where each station works together as part of a complete training experience.

BUILD THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT PACKAGE

A HYROX Training Zone needs equipment that supports the full training experience, from running and rowing to sled work, carries, lunges, and wall balls. The right equipment package will depend on the size and capacity of your training zone.

The guide includes recommendations for equipment such as:

  • Perform Tread
  • Concept2 Rowers and SkiErgs
  • Power Sleds
  • Competition Turf
  • Wall Balls
  • Sandbags
  • Kettlebells
  • Dumbbells
  • Bumper Plates
  • Power Ropes
